SCP-303

Item #: SCP-303

Object Class: Euclid

Special Containment Procedures: All known specimens of SCP-303 are to be considered extreme biological hazards and contained using standard parasitic infection protocols. Additionally, a magnetic tape eraser should be applied to all samples of SCP-303 following cataloging of audio content.

Description: SCP-303 is a parasitic lifeform, superficially resembling the Cestoda class of flatworms. Unlike known variants of the class, SCP-303 does not embed itself in the intestines during the digestive process, but instead enters the nasal cavity in the manner of an excavate, such as Naegleria fowleri. Upon reaching the sinuses, SCP-303 anchors itself and begins eating into the brain via the olfactory bulb.

As SCP-303 feeds, its body grows into the cerebral cavity. Though organic, the outer tegument of SCP-303 is composed of a ferromagnetic bioplastic, similar in form and function to standard magnetic reel tape in use until the mid-1980s. As SCP-303 consumes cerebral matter and produces more of its body, the conscious thought patterns of the infected host are imprinted on its tegument, lasting until the demise of the host. If SCP-303 is then extracted, it can be loaded into a standard reel tape player; the host's recorded thoughts will broadcast in standard audio form.

SCP-303 was first brought to the attention of the Foundation by the United States ███████ ████████ ███ █████████ ██████, an agency formerly tasked with parabiological war strategies. As the Foundation has now largely taken over most of that agency's responsibilities, all known test samples of SCP-303 have been transferred to Foundation custody. However, as the agency's security protocols were starkly primitive in comparison to the Foundation, several specimens remain unaccounted for.

Addendum: Audio Log 303-1
Subject: Male human, 38, Caucasian, American.
Abstract: Subject's corpse retrieved from civilian hospital near ██████████, Pennsylvania. Specimen SCP-303-1 extracted from body, measuring 9.9008 m in length. Specimen played on standard Otari MX-5050 at common domestic speed, audio output recorded to digital.

Addendum: Audio Log 303-2
Subject: Female human, 25, Caucasian, Australian.
Abstract: Subject's corpse retrieved from morgue in ████, New South Wales. Specimen SCP-303-2 extracted from body, measuring 10.948 m in length. Specimen played on standard Otari MX-5050 at common domestic speed, audio output recorded to digital.

Addendum: Audio Log 303-3
Subject: SCP-682.
Abstract: After cataloging of audio content, extraction SCP-303-3 made from SCP-303-2. SCP-303-3 introduced to SCP-682 via standard Class-D decoy carrier method. SCP-303-3 allowed to gestate within SCP-682 until demise of SCP-682. Prior to regeneration of SCP-682, matured SCP-303-3 extracted from body, measuring 2.0944 m in length. Specimen played on standard Otari MX-5050 at common domestic speed, audio output recorded to digital.
